Flagship Pomade Co. presents the Black Ship Waterbased Pomade.
Pulling from history once again, the Black Ships represented the West’s encroachment into Japan during the mid 1800’s. For the pomade user though, it provides a twist on our ‘The Insubmersible’ pomade.
With a charcoal coloring that comes from all-natural, black oxide (a cosmetic coloring agent), it provides a more matte finish to our waterbased that will also work well with darker hair for making it look more full and healthy.
The scent is that of peppermint and vanilla, providing the crisp scent of the peppermint that is smoothed out by the vanilla undertones.
The hold is more than ‘The Insubmersible’, mainly due to a higher candelilla wax content, the increase in the amount of the hydrogenated castor oil, and the decrease in the amount of the water mixed into it. This will last throughout the day, with as many restyles as necessary for your particular hair style.
Much like a waxy cream, this will scoop and spread easily. Do not be afraid of the color! It washes off hands easily with soap and water and the pomade in the hair itself washes out with a single wash and shampoo.
‘From Darkness, They Sail Forth…’ , and as it makes it’s way to you no matter where you are in this world, know that Flagship Pomade Co recognizes that it has only done this with your support and business. We couldn’t do it without you!

SCENT
Peppermint-vanilla, fresh, not overpowering. The peppermint scent is the most noticeable. You’ll smell it once in a while throughout the day.
SCOOPING, MIXING
The pomade has a grey color to represent the black ship name. No pressure is needed to scoop it out. It has a bit wet, bit grainy texture but it becomes creamy when mixing in your hands immediately.
Important info to facilitate the use: do not break down the pomade completely. Before it becomes creamy, put it in your hair. Than it goes very easy. When you break it down completely, it is difficult to apply: tug and pull.
APPLICATION
On damp hair. It goes in easy and a few little scoops are enough to style your hair nicely. It gives a good grip, not heavy at all. A little bit tug and pull when combing.
SHINE
It says matte but I has a bit of a medium shine for me.
HOLD IN NORMAL AND (HEAVY) WEATHER CONDITIONS
It has a great heavy hold! Heavy wind and some rain don’t destroy your hair. Didn’t test it in the heat but this pomade holds in the heat, I am very certain. Holds the hair in place the whole day. It feels light in the hair, no helmet feel at all. It tames my manes fantastic! It’s great!
RESTYLING
No problem. There is no loss of hold after recombing! But you don’t need to recomb! Black ship keeps the hair in place.
BUILD UP
I wash out the most of it every day so I have no real build up. What stays in the hair, feels clean.
WASHING OUT
You need 2-3 shampoos to wash it out completely because it’s a heavy one. When using water and some sort of a conditioner, the most is out of your hair and it feels conditioned. Complete wash out: your hair feels healthy and soft afterwards. Don’t panic when the water turns grey, that’s the black oxide.
CONCLUSION
This is a high quality condtioning pomade for an okay price and it’s a hand made brew. It’s very workable and restyling is not a problem. Restyling is not necessary because it keeps the manes in place! For me a bit more than a matte shine. You do not need much for a great result so you can do a long time with it. Weather has not that bad influence to mess up your hair. This is a really heavy pomade that tames the manes. So buy it, it’s great! You won’t regret it at all! This is one of the best water based pomades in my opinion!

This is a very well balanced pomade. Honestly I believe it’s the perfect pomade for me. If you’re into heavy holds this is a must have. Check out my full review at https://slickpomadereviews.wordpress.com/2015/10/18/flagship-pomade-blackship/

This is as good as it gets. I’ve been exploring unorthodox Water based for awhile and just got around to Black Ship. Got mine from Hedgelion and was I pleasantly surprised. The hold is firmer than the other three I’ve tried from other brewers. This is now at the top of my list!. Great job Flagship.
